I tried out for the roller derby yesterday. It was fun! And I think I skated well. I'll find out tomorrow how well.

If I make it, I may need to start a more photo-friendly blog, in order to document my bruises.

It's also fun and interesting to hear others' reactions to me trying out, and to the sport in general. Most people still think of the 70s-version (Raquel Welch: Kansas City Bomber), whether or not they were alive in the 70s. And as it turns out, I'm not perceived to be the type that would play derby. This is not a surprise. I cannot at all picture myself playing in an actual bout, now, while my arm and leg muscles ache from one two-hour tryout, and falling is still kind of scary. But I operate one step at a time, and the next step, if I'm picked, is to train really hard and see what happens.

(All of my neighbors are yelling at the same time, which makes it hard to stay on topic.)

During the interview portion of the tryout, I got "nerd points" because I was wearing my Seattle Public Library t-shirt. Yeah! This was a somewhat intentional test. Clever t-shirts are an important social thermometer.
